The next step is finding your hero product and how you will sell it to your target consumers.

2. Research and prepare

This process also includes doing a lot of research on your competition as well as other similar products. Getting a good idea of other competitors can give you an advantage.

3. Setting up your business

The next step to starting a successful e-commerce business is setting up properly. This includes incorporating an effective branding that sets your business apart.

Understanding Search Engine Optimization or SEO is also an important part of setting up a successful eCommerce business. Being able to optimise your brand and its content will give you an edge to provide structure to the brand.

Building your store requires good content and images, as well as having a stable, speedy and secured e-commerce platform. This also includes carefully choosing good sales channels to distribute your product across online and offline avenues.

Pros And Cons Of Using Shopify

Digital 38 | Shopify Pros and Cons

There are several options to consider when building your online store. This includes a good partner eCommerce solution to help grow your business. Here are some pros and cons of using Shopify as an eCommerce partner:

Pros and Cons of using Shopify

Pros

1. Built-in speed and security

Running an online store requires good speed and security for processing orders, inquiries, and payments. Shopify is successfully able to deliver a quick initial response to your webpage.

2. Inclusive of all necessary features

Shopify does not only have basic features to build a typical online business, but they have others too. Some of these include storefront features, analytics, 24/7 support, marketing, SEO, and more.

3. Great customer support

Since Shopify’s response time is exceptional, their customer support is also very good. It is important for customers to feel supported and taken care of. This is possible because of Shopify’s database of email and chat support, FAQ’s, and even phone support.

4. Marketing and Design

The idea of marketing and designing your brand does not have to be complicated. Sticking to the essentials is enough and this is something that Shopify excels at. This includes services with SEO, HTML, CSS, as well as many design features.

5. Add-ons/Plug-ins

Having the basic necessities for growing your e-commerce business is essential, however, there is nothing wrong with going beyond that. Shopify also offers a lot of additional features with their own app store.

6. Company Structure and Size

Although Shopify has several competitors out there, it does not rule them out from being one of the stronger platforms. They are constantly growing by size and by structure, making them a good competitor as well.

Cons

D38 | Ecommerce Pros and Cons of Using Shopify Cons Presentation

1. Pricing

Ecommerce pricing can be quite confusing, and Shopify has several fees centered around different aspects. There are monthly payments, platform transaction fees, credit card fees, and other additional fees.

2. Customisation

Shopify has a ton of options and features for customisation. However, an extensive customisation setup like this could pose some issues in the sense that customising a page could be confusing.

3. Content Marketing

When promoting your brand, content marketing is one of the important team players. In this case, Shopify’s built-in blogging and content software could see some improvements.

4. Jargon

Good communication and clarity with features are essential to make things less confusing. Shopify can interchange terms from “categories” to “collections”, or simply not being able to deliver the best user experience.

5. Lock-in and Set-up

With the possibility of using a different e-commerce solutions platform in the future, it could be quite difficult to transfer from one to the next. Being able to set up with Shopify isn’t the easiest experience as well, some technical knowledge could be helpful.
