How Paypal Fees Work On Shopify Payment Methods

D38 | Paypal Fees on Shopify FT IMG

Paypal is one of the biggest online payment systems with over  227 million active accounts all around the globe. They are mostly used as payment methods in online shopping like Shopify. But, every payment system comes with fees, luckily, Paypal works hand in hand with Shopify Payments by offering multiple ways for your customers to checkout without having to worry about stacking fees.

Paypal Business account fees

Shopify Singapore

Paypal business accounts have no setup fees. You only need to create an account and connect it to your bank account/s or credit card that will accept 25 currencies from different countries.

Shopify merchants are encouraged to integrate Paypal Express in their e-commerce stores as this is the supported payment gateway.

Calculate Paypal seller fees

There are no fees charged when a regular customer purchased goods and services in the US via Paypal but, if you’re a seller, you will be charged a percentage for the transaction fee and a fixed rate.

If you are a seller in the US, you will be charged 2.9% of the transaction amount with an additional $0.30 USD flat fee (based on the currency of the payment). For example, a $50 USD will have a processing fee of $1.75 USD ($1.45 + $0.30). Therefore, your payout will be $48.25 for the transaction.

4.4% charge plus a fixed fee based on the currency will be included if you are receiving payments from outside of the US.

Shopify Payments and Paypal Express

If merchants are using Shopify Payments in their store to accept credit card payments, there will be credit card fees for every transaction depending on the sellers’ plan (2.4% to 2.9% + 30c).

One of the most asked questions is whether they will be double-charged if they’re both using Shopify Payments and Paypal Express as their payment gateways.

The answer is no. Merchants will only pay the fees for the payment gateway to what ththat the customer uses to pay. Paypal fees on Shopify payment will not be double-charged.

For more information, check out our Shopify’s docs or contact support at [email protected].

4 Ways To Create an Effective Shopping Ad Campaign

D38 | Shopping Ad Campaigns FT IMG

Promote your online brand, boost traffic to your e-commerce store, and find better-qualified leads by creating effective Shopping Ad Campaigns. But do you know what fits your brand the most? Here are the 4 ways you can create your Shopping Ad campaign.

But before you create your Shopping campaign, make sure you meet the requirements.

  1. Google accounts – you will need to set up accounts with Google Merchant Center and Google Ads and link them together.
  2. Policies – you need to make sure that your type of business, products, promotions, and website meet the requirements and follows the shopping ad policies before you begin advertising.
  3. Product data – you need to update your product data at least every 30 days. This data should meet Google’s standards for data quality to provide users the best shopping experience.

4 Types of Shopping Ad Campaign

Smart Shopping campaigns

The Smart Shopping campaigns is the best approach if you’re looking for the easiest setup and the least amount of work. This campaign needs a few inputs to get started like an approved feed, daily budget, geographic targeting, and your desired ROAS. How does it work? Smart Shopping gets your impressions and clicks from potential buyers while taking into consideration your daily budget and targeting your ROAS.

D38 | 4 ways to build your Shopping campaigns

Pros

Smart Shopping campaigns generally work pretty well with optimised feeds. The advantages are that the setup is so easy and the ongoing management is almost non-existent. Smart Shopping campaigns comes with dynamic remarketing ads therefore a set up for a standalone dynamic remarketing campaign will not be needed. Make sure to check in from time to time for feed issues and adjust the ROAS targets occasionally.

Cons

Smart Shopping campaigns will not be effective if you like to control everything. There are less data visibility and fewer levers to pull in order to optimise the performance such as you cannot add negative keywords, run a search term report, and have more than one ad group.

Smart Shopping campaign setup

D38 | 4 ways to build your Shopping campaigns

Create a new campaign, choose Sales as the campaign goal, select Shopping as your campaign type, choose your Merchant Center, select the countries where your goods are retailed, then click Smart Shopping as the campaign subtype.

Type the name of your campaign, set the daily budget, and give specifics about ROAS targets.

D38 | 4 ways to build your Shopping campaigns

Afterwards, choose your product groups. “All products” comprises all approved products in your feed. Otherwise, you may opt to choose certain products based on the Category, Brand, Product Type, Custom label, or Item ID.

Insert images and your logo so Google will be able to build dynamic remarketing ads for you. Make sure to visit the Google Merchant Center for feed metrics and Google Ads for the performance metrics.

Assisted Smart Shopping campaign (part human, part robot)

D38 | Shopping Ad Campaign 1 Smart Shopping 2 Smart Shopping by Zato

This setup uses a standard shopping campaign and offers access to normal areas of control like network, bid type, and also allows Smart Bidding.

Pros

You will have some control but you’re letting the machine bid optimization. You’ll also be able to add negative keywords, launch various ad groups in one campaign, select your networks, and more. Another benefit available is more data visibility, together with a search term report, which isn’t accessible for Smart campaigns.

Cons

There are not many cons to this campaign. To enable target ROAS, the account needs to have generated at least 15 conversions for the past 30 days. And If it did not meet the conversion threshold, manual bidding should begin that will transition to Smart Bidding later.

Assisted Smart Shopping campaign setup

Pick Sales as your campaign goal, then Shopping for campaign type, choose your Merchant Center account, pick your country to sell products, and select Standard Shopping as the campaign subtype.

D38 | 4 ways to google shopping ad

Type the campaign name, click Target ROAS as your bid strategy, and key in the desired ROAS.

D38 | assisted shopping desired ROAS

To improve efficiency, uncheck the Search Partners as well as YouTube, Gmail, and Discover. Click Single Product Ads and choose how you want to part the first ad group by choosing All Products or split it by attributes, such as Category, Brand, ID, or Custom label.

When to use Showcase Shopping ads

Showcase Shopping ads show wider, higher-in-the-funnel search demands. It displays searches of a product collection that might help a consumer find more specific products.

Unfortunately, Showcase Shopping ads don’t work for all product categories. Furniture, Apparel, Accessories, Electronics, Home Decor, and a few other categories are only allowed for Showcase Shopping ads.

The no-risk, lower-reward approach (free listings)

If you like to eliminate with no risk at all then this approach suits your campaign ad. It is where you only take advantage of free listings and/or commission-based listings through Shopping Actions.

D38 | The no-risk, lower-reward approach (free listings)

Pros

There’s no foreseeable risk with this approach because you either don’t pay at all for free listings or you pay a practical commission with Shopping Actions if Google closes a sale for you.

Cons

The visibility will be fairly limited, free listings don’t show mostly in noticeable placements across Google. With Shopping Actions (commission-based), there will be better than free listings. But then again, unless the product is selling really well, Google will more likely show either traditionally paid listings or Shopping Action products that have proven sales.

How to set up free listings and Shopping Actions

When adding a new feed, you can pick your destinations. Shopping Actions are the commission-free listings that let shoppers Purchase on Google. Choose the destinations where you want it to appear. The default is for all destinations to be selected, therefore needing you to deselect any destination you do not want.

Driving foot traffic with Local inventory ads (LIAs)

If you have a traditional street-side business, you can use the local inventory ads to direct shoppers to it. These ads are shown next to standard Shopping ads and are shown when a buyer is close to your physical store. Local inventory ads stand for “Pick up today” or something similar message.

D38 | Driving foot traffic with Local inventory ads

Four basic steps in setting up the local inventory ads:

  1. Enable LIAs in Google Merchant Center
  2. Produce and submit a local inventory feed
  3. Request inventory verification
  4. Enable local inventory ads in the shopping campaigns

Google will need you to verify the in-store inventory and may prefer to do so in person or via phone call. For more details on local inventory verification setup, check this out Google help article.

Guide to Google Ads Conversion Tracking Set Up

D38 | Google Ads Conversion Tracking Setup Guide Google Ads FT IMGPhoto Credits: We Are Marketing

Conversions are essential for your Shopping campaigns. Without conversion data, you won’t be able to assess performance and enhance campaigns. Make sure to build up your websites’ conversion tracking setup before creating your campaign.

What is Google Ads Conversion Tracking?

Google Ads conversion tracking helps you monitor how efficiently the ad clicks result in valued customer activity on your website like purchases sign-ups and form submissions. With this, you’ll be able to see which of your Google Ads advertisements create the most sales in your e-commerce store.

Google Ads Conversion Tracking Set Up Requirements

Before you set up your conversion tracking, you need to:

  • Have a Google Ads account
  • Be running or planning to run an ad through Google Ads

To start the set up of your Google Ads conversion tracking, you must create a conversion action, install the global site tag, then add the event snippet. And if you’re planning to track the purchases, you will be needing to edit the event snippet and adjust the worth of the conversion based on the purchase total.

Step 1: Create a conversion action in Google Ads

For you to set up the Google Ads conversion tracking, you must check out the Google Ads instructions to create the conversion action.

If you plan to track purchases to see how effective your ads are at creating sales in your e-commerce store, choose the category Purchase/Sale, and the value to Use different values for each conversion.

Once you’re done creating your conversion action, you can now select create and continue.

Step 2: Install the global site tag

You can install the global site tag in your Shopify theme code. Here’s how:

  1. Click on the Set up the tag step in Google Ads, select Install the tag yourself.
  2. In the Global site tag section, choose the option that applies. The generated code depends on your selection.
  3. You must copy your global site tag as you will need this for the next step.
  4. Open your Shopify admin and click Online Store in another browser window.
  5. Click Actions then Edit code.
  6. Open your theme.liquid file.
  7. If this is the first time you’ve installed a global site tag, paste the copied global site tag between the <head> and </head> tags to apply the tag to every page in your store. If you’re editing a global site tag that you’ve already installed, locate the global site tag in your theme.liquid file then change the code as suggested by Google Ads.
  8. Tick Save.

Step 3: Mount the event snippet

You should add the event snippet to your checkout page after you installed the global site tag. The event snippet tracks a conversion every time a visitor clicks your ads and then eventually reaches the checkout page on your online store.

  1. Inside Google Ads, under the Event snippet section, select Page load.
  2. Copy the event snippet code.
  3. Open your Shopify admin in another browser window and click Settings > Checkout.
  4. In the Order processing section, select the Additional scripts text box, paste the event snippet. If you already have code in the Additional scripts text box, add the event snippet on a new line below the existing code.
  5. Copy the global site tag used in the Install the global site tag. Add this tag above the event snippet added in step 4.
  6. If a customer reloads the checkout page, Google Ads might record a duplicate conversion. To stop the duplicate conversions, you must add tags before and after the event snippet so that it triggers once per customer:
  7. On the line before the snippet, paste {% if first_time_accessed %}.
  8. On the line after the snippet, paste {% endif %}.
  9. The default currency is in USD. If you don’t sell in US dollars, replace 'USD' in the event snippet with '{{ currency }}'.
  10. The default transaction ID is always blank. To keep Google Ads from recording duplicate conversions, next to ‘transaction_id’: replace '' with '{{ order_number }}':
  11. Click Save.

Step 4: Make the conversion value effective

If the conversion action you’re looking out for is tracking the purchases on your online store, you must anticipate that the value of each conversion will be different.

For example, Irene is the owner of a jewelry store and is running two different ads on Google Ads – one for her collection of watches, and one for her collection of shoes. Both ads create a parallel number of clicks and sales in her store; however, the value of the purchases made by the people who click on the watch collection advertisement will be higher than the shoe collection. The value is higher because the buyers purchase more luxurious items after clicking that ad. This is where Irene uses the information to choose where to spend her advertising budget.

  1. Open your Shopify admin and click Settings then Checkout
  2. In the Order processing section, inside Additional scripts text box, check for the event snippet
  3. Replace the line beginning with 'value': with the following snippets:

You can check the tracking status on the Conversion actions page in your Google Ads Account to make sure your tag is working. Note that it may take some time for the conversion tracking tag to show as verified.

How does PayPal Work on Your Store?

PayPal fills out the billing address fields with the customer’s shipping address. The customer can edit the information. Shopify can send only a single address to PayPal.

However, for normal PayPal payments (as opposed to credit card payments) this address must be the shipping address because PayPal already has the billing address. There is no way for Shopify to know ahead of time whether the customer has an existing account. As a result, Shopify can’t send the billing address, such as when the customer is paying with a credit card instead.

How to Start Cross-Border Selling on Shopify

feature

Technology enabled e-commerce to push through cross-border selling and completely transformed the way people buy stuff. Millions of purchases are made online every day regardless of where they are sourced and a large number of products are delivered to end consumers across the globe.

What is Cross-Border Selling?

Selling cross-border helps you reach consumers anywhere in the world by creating localised shopping experiences for your store visitors. Selling in several marketplaces can be an effective key to drive extra income for your business and create brand awareness on a global market.

Digital 38 | Cross-Border Selling Shopify FAQs

Benefits of Cross-border E-commerce

Selling online is no longer the realm of a selected class of e-commerce giants and brand manufacturers. As the technology continues to innovate, this enables small to medium online sellers and street-side businesses to go global and sell across the border effortlessly.

Not only online sellers will benefit from cross-border selling, but also e-commerce platforms such as Shopify.

How to Start Selling Cross-Border?

It is important that you identify your potential target markets before you start selling internationally. You can identify your potential target audience by looking at the size of the market, the simplicity of doing business in that market, and the potential return on investment. You should remember that localising the customer experience is key to driving traffic, and ultimately conversions.

Digital 38 | Cross-Border Selling Shopify FAQs

You should also provide your customers with an option to shop in their local language and currency to build their trust that can lead to higher sales.

It is important that you check with your shipping providers to find out what countries they ship to and which market regulates and limits your products. This way you can adjust shipping regions and comply with the regulations of the receiving market accordingly.
